These duʿāʾs are more than requests—they are conversations with the Most Merciful, acts of submission, and pathways to strengthen faith in Allah ﷻ, the One who gives life. The Supplications (Duʿāʾs) for Having Children
Duaa 1: Not Being Left Alone
رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ
Rabbi lā tadhar-nī fardan wa anta khayru al-wārithīn
Translation: O my Lord, do not leave me childless, though You are the best of inheritors.
Surah Al-Anbiyāʾ 21:89
This duʿāʾ of Prophet Zakariyyā (ʿalayhi as-salām) reveals a deep and humble plea for children. It recognizes that while we ask for offspring, we acknowledge Allah as the One who ultimately remains and inherits all.
Duaa 2: Establishing Prayer in One’s Lineage
رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ
Rabbi-jʿalnī muqīmaṣ-ṣalāti wa min dhurriyyatī, rabbanā wa taqabbal duʿāʾ
Translation: My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, accept my supplication.
Surah Ibrāhīm 14:40
Here, Prophet Ibrāhīm (ʿalayhi as-salām) beautifully ties his longing for righteous children to the central practice of faith: prayer. It is not only about having children but about having children who are spiritually connected.
Duaa 3: For Comfort and Righteous Offspring
رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا
Rabbana hab lanā min azwājinā wa dhurriyyātinā qurrata aʿyunin wa-jʿalnā lil-muttaqīna imāmā
Translation: Our Lord, grant us from among our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us leaders for the righteous.
Surah Al-Furqān 25:74
This duʿāʾ speaks of emotional tranquility, companionship, and righteous legacy. It reminds us that children are not just blessings to enjoy, but a trust we pray to lead by example.

Duaa 4: A Righteous Child from the Divine Source
رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِن لَّدُنكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً ۖ إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاءِ
Rabbi hab lī min ladunka dhurriyyatan ṭayyibah, innaka samīʿu ad-duʿāʾ
Translation: My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.
Surah Āli ʿImrān 3:38
This is again from the duʿāʾ of Prophet Zakariyyā. It emphasizes that not just any child, but a righteous and pure child is the goal.
Duaa 5: A Prayer for Mercy and Loving Upbringing
رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
Rabbi irḥamhumā kamā rabbayānī ṣaghīrā
Translation: My Lord, have mercy on them as they brought me up when I was small.
Surah Al-Isrāʾ 17:24
Though typically recited for one’s parents, this duʿāʾ can be extended as a hope that we too become nurturing, merciful parents deserving of such a prayer from our own children.
Duaa 6: Barakah and Guidance in Family Life
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لِي فِي أَهْلِي وَذُرِّيَّتِي، وَاجْعَلْنِي لَهُمْ قُدْوَةً فِي الْخَيْرِ
Allāhumma bārik lī fī ahlī wa dhurriyyatī, wajʿalnī lahum qudwatan fī al-khayr
Translation: O Allah, bless me in my family and offspring, and make me a role model for them in goodness.
Though not directly from Qur’an or Hadith, this supplication aligns with the ethics of prophetic parenting and is widely used in duʿāʾ literature. It emphasizes not just having children, but guiding them with wisdom.
The following duʿāʾs are not narrated in the Qur’an or the authentic Sunnah in these exact wordings. They are composed supplications (duʿāʾs maʿnawiyyah) based on Islamic values and the meanings of Qur’anic and prophetic prayers.

Transliteration: Allāhumma urzuqnī waladan yakūnu nūran li-qalbī wa sababān fī qurbī minka

ٱللَّهُمَّ ٱجْعَلْ لِي فِي ٱلذُّرِّيَّةِ نَصِيبًا، وَلَا تَجْعَلْنِي مِنَ ٱلْعَاقِمِينَ
Transliteration: Allāhumma ijʿal lī fī al-dhurriyyati naṣīban, wa lā tajʿalnī mina al-ʿāqimīn

Transliteration: Rabbi ijʿal hibataka lī mina al-awlādi hibatan mubārakatan lā fitnah
Translation: My Lord, make Your gift to me of children a blessed one, not a trial.

Transliteration: Allāhumma yā Wahhāb, hab lī min ladunka naslan yusabbiḥuka wa yashkuruka
Translation: O Allah, O Giver of gifts, grant me descendants from You who glorify and thank You.
Context:
Here, the believer calls upon Allah’s Name “Al-Wahhāb” (The Bestower), asking for a gift that is rooted in praise and gratitude—children who live in worship.

رَبَّنَا لَا تَذَرْنَا فَرْدَيْنِ وَأَنْتَ أَرْحَمُ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ، وَهَبْ لَنَا ذُرِّيَّةً صَالِحَةً
Transliteration: Rabbana lā tadharnā fardayn wa anta arḥamu al-rāḥimīn, wahab lanā dhurriyyatan ṣāliḥah
Translation: Our Lord, do not leave us childless, and You are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. Grant us righteous children.

Patience, Prayer, and T.rust in the Healer of Hearts
If your arms feel empty today, know that your hands raised in duʿāʾ are already full—with hope, with faith, and with a divine connection that surpasses all earthly means. Parenthood is a journey, and every journey in Islam begins with duʿāʾ.
Even if your prayers are delayed, they are not unheard. Allah ﷻ is Al-Mujīb—the One who Responds. He may respond with a child, or with peace, or with something better than we can imagine.
So keep praying. Keep believing. And know that every tear, every whisper of longing, is being carried to the One who created you—and the child you long for.
