Dua for Shifa, or supplication for healing, holds an important place in Islamic tradition. The concept of Shifa is not only physical healing, but it also includes spiritual and psychological healing. Shifa represents a form of relief from any form of illness or difficulty one may be undergoing.
One of the most prominent and often cited duas for healing comes from the Hadith, the traditions of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
Dua for Shifa 1
Translation “Oh Allah, The Lord of people, remove the trouble. Heal! You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your Healing. Heal in such a way, that none of the illness remains.”
This is reported to be the dua that Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) recited when a person was sick or ill. It is advisable to place your hands on the part of the body that hurts when reciting this dua and to say it multiple times. If the pain is all over the body, the person can place his hand on his head while reciting the dua.
This supplication encapsulates the Islamic belief in Allah as the ultimate source of healing. The dua recognizes the absolute power of Allah to remove every form of distress and illness. It reinforces the concept of Tawhid (the oneness of God), as it categorically states that there is no healer except Allah, further emphasizing on the reliance on the Almighty for all forms of cure.
Dua for Shifa 2
Translation: The Prophet – peace be upon him – said, “If any one of you experiences pain in any part of your body, then he should place his hand at the site of the pain, recite “I seek refuge in the Majesty and power of Allah, in all matters that arise from what I feel” seven times.”
Transliteration: A’udhu bi’izzati Allah wa qudratihi ‘ala kulli shay’in sharr ma ajid
Dua for Shifa 3
Translation: The Prophet – peace be upon him – said, “Place your hand where you feel pain in your body and say three times ‘Bismillah’. Then say seven times: “I seek refuge with Allah and His omnipotence from the evil of what I find and what I guard against.” (Sahih)
Transliteration: Bismillah ( 3 times) A’udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajid wa ahadir ( 7 times)
In moments of illness, physical discomfort, emotional distress, or spiritual ailment, practicing the dua for shifa can offer great solace. Reciting these supplications often helps to aid in cultivating patience, trust in divine decree, and reliance on Allah. As believers, we hope for Allah’s mercy and healing, and that healing extends to all aspects of our lives.
Ultimately, the Dua for Shifa serves as a profound act of worship, a demonstration of absolute reliance, trust in Allah, and an expression of our need for Him in every aspect of our lives, including our health and general well-being.
May Allah grant all those who are suffering with pain or illness a swift and complete recovery. Ameen.
