Dua for Nazar (Evil Eye): Protection Through Faith | In the reality of our unseen world, the evil eye (nazar) is a spiritual truth recognized in Islam. It is a phenomenon that the Prophet ﷺ warned us about, where a person can be harmed due to another’s envy, even unintentionally. This harm can manifest in physical, emotional, or material ways.
Despite its subtle nature, Islam offers believers powerful protection through dua for nazar—supplications rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah. These duas serve as shields, strengthening our reliance on Allah ﷻ, who is the ultimate protector and healer.
This blog explores the concept of nazar, the authentic duas to counter it, and additional spiritually aligned supplications you can make to safeguard yourself and loved ones.
Understanding Nazar in Islam
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The evil eye is real. If anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye.”
📚 Sahih Muslim (2188)

Nazar may strike a person due to beauty, success, or even piety. It may arise from jealousy or admiration, and in some cases, even from someone who loves you. Islam teaches us to combat this reality—not with superstition, but with tawakkul (reliance on Allah ﷻ) and the power of sincere dua for nazar.

- If someone shows signs of being afflicted by nazar (sudden illness, misfortune, restlessness), make dua for them and recite:
In Islam, if a person is afflicted by nazar (the evil eye), the Prophet ﷺ taught both spiritual remedies and practical steps to remove its harmful effects. Below is a clear, authentic guide on what to do to remove nazar, based on the Qur’an, Sunnah, and the understanding of the scholars.
What to Do to Remove Nazar (Evil Eye)
1. Recite Ruqyah (Spiritual Healing) from the Qur’an and Sunnah
These verses and supplications are powerful for healing and protection:
- Surah Al-Fātiḥah (7 times)
- Āyat al-Kursī (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255)
- Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nās (3 times each)
- Dua of Prophet Yūnus ﷺ:
﴾لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ﴿
Lā ilāha illā anta subḥānaka innī kuntu minaẓ-ẓālimīn
(Surah Al-Anbiyāʾ 21:87)
These can be recited over the afflicted person or blown on water or olive oil to be used for drinking or rubbing.
2. Use Water Washed from the “ʿĀin” (Envier) – if Known
The Prophet ﷺ taught that if the identity of the one who cast the evil eye is known, they should make wuḍūʾ (ablution), and the water from that should be poured on the afflicted person.
“The evil eye is real… If you are asked to perform wuḍūʾ (because of it), do so.”
📚 Sahih Muslim (2188)
🔗 Sunnah.com/muslim:2188
How it is done (per scholars like Ibn al-Qayyim and Imam Mālik):
- The person who is believed to have cast the eye does wuḍūʾ
- The water is collected in a container
- The afflicted is then bathed with it, starting from behind their shoulders
3. Say the Protective Dua for Evil Eye
If children or loved ones are affected, recite the dua the Prophet ﷺ used for al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn:
أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلتَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ
Uʿīdhukumā bikalimāti Allāhi at-tāmmati min kulli shayṭānin wa hāmmah, wa min kulli ʿaynin lāmmah.
📚 Sahih al-Bukhari (3371)

4. Regular Morning and Evening Adhkār
These include:
- Bismillāh allatī lā yaḍurru… (3 times morning/evening)
- Muʿawwidhāt (Surah Al-Ikhlāṣ, Al-Falaq, An-Nās — 3 times each)
- Āyat al-Kursī
These protect and also help remove lingering effects of nazar.
📚 Sahih Tirmidhī (3388), Hasan

5. Avoid Superstitions and Innovated Practices
- No burning of herbs or “evil eye” symbols
- No tying of blue beads or wearing amulets (taʿwīdh) unless only Qur’anic
- Do not go to magicians or “healers” who deal in shirk
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever goes to a soothsayer or fortune-teller and believes what they say has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muḥammad ﷺ.”
📚 Musnad Aḥmad (9535), Sahih
6. Make Sincere Dua
Turn to Allah ﷻ with heartfelt dua to remove harm:
ٱللّٰهُمَّ أَذْهِبِ ٱلْبَأْسَ رَبَّ ٱلنَّاسِ، وَٱشْفِ أَنتَ ٱلشَّافِي، لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا
Allāhumma adhhib al-baʾsa rabba an-nās, washfi anta ash-shāfī, lā shifāʾa illā shifāʾuk, shifāʾan lā yughadiru saqaman.
📚 Sahih al-Bukhari (5743), Muslim (2191)
To remove the evil eye (nazar):
- Use authentic ruqyah (Qur’an + Sunnah)
- Use water from the envier if identified
- Recite morning/evening adhkār and specific duas
- Avoid superstitions
- Trust in Allah ﷻ and ask Him sincerely for healing
Trust in the Protection of Allah ﷻ
The evil eye (nazar) is a reality confirmed by our Prophet ﷺ, but so is the mercy and protection of Allah ﷻ. As believers, we are not powerless. We are armed with duas, morning and evening adhkār, and daily practices from the Sunnah that serve as shields against spiritual harm.
Recite these duas for nazar with sincerity. Make them part of your routine—morning, evening, after prayer, and before sleeping. Also, speak good of others with barakah (e.g. Māshā’ Allāh, Tabārak Allāh) to prevent envy.
Let your heart settle in the words of Allah ﷻ:
﴾وَإِن يَمْسَسْكَ ٱللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهُ إِلَّا هُوَ﴿
“If Allah should touch you with harm, none can remove it but Him.”
Surah Al-Anʿām (6:17)
