Dua For Marriage
Translation: “Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.” [Quran 25:74]
English translation:
“Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.”
Dua for Marriage | Prophet Musa’s Dua
Transliteration:
“Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khairin faqeer.”
Translation:
“My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need.”
Explanation:
This heartfelt supplication is taken from Surah Al-Qasas, Ayah 24. It was said by Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) after he was subjected to several trials. He had just escaped from Egypt after a confrontation with Pharaoh and had unintentionally killed a man. He was in the complete alien environment of Madyan, had no immediate family close by, and no physical possessions. He was genuinely in need.
SubhanAllah, the power of du’a is truly remarkable, as is the story of how Allah (s.w.t) responded to the prayer of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) in his time of need. Let us take a moment to reflect on the beautiful events that happened after this noble Prophet raised his hands in supplication.
As Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) sat by the well in Madyan after saying this dua, he noticed two women, who were sisters, struggling to provide water for their father’s herd. The Prophet, despite the hardships he had just faced, did not hesitate to help and offer his assistance. He watered their flock, a task that later revealed to be ordinarily performed by their father, a righteous old man named Shu’ayb (peace be upon him) who was weakened by the passage of time.
Grateful for the Prophet’s gesture and recognizing the signs of a noble and honorable man, one of the daughters proposed to her father that they employ Musa (peace be upon him) in exchange for one of them marrying him. This arrangement manifested in a marriage between Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) and one of Shu’ayb’s daughters, as well as him working for Prophet Shu’ayb (peace be upon him) for a period.
From the divine response to Musa’s (peace be upon him) sincere plea, we learn that Allah (s.w.t) blesses and supports those who place their trust in Him. With patience and faith in the Almighty, these trials and hardships guided Musa (peace be upon him) to a new, fulfilling chapter of his life.
Duas for Marriage | Prophet Zakariya’ s Dua
Transliteration:
“Rabbi la tadharni fardan wa anta khairul waritheen.”
Translation:
“My Lord, do not leave me alone (childless), while you are the best of inheritors.”
Explanation:
This verse is a supplication made by the Prophet Zakariyya (peace be upon him), found in Surah Al-Anbiya, Ayah 89. Prophet Zakariyya (peace be upon him) was an elderly man and he and his wife were unable to bear children for many years. In this deeply personal invocation, the Prophet expresses his longing for offspring and pleas with Allah s.w.t, acknowledging Him as the best of inheritors, Khayrul-Warithin.
Being referred to as the “best of inheritors”, Allah reminds us that He is the ultimate possessor of all, and everything will return to Him in the end. As stated in Qur’an: “Indeed, we [even] we, to Allah belong, and indeed to Him, we are [to be] returned.” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 156)
This verse does not merely allude to the biological conception of offspring but stretches out to a yearning for a spiritual progeny that will continue to benefit the Ummah and earn their parent’s continuous rewards even after they’ve passed on from this world.
In making this du’a Prophet Zakariyya (peace be upon him) affirmed his faith in Allah’s power to alter what may seem to be an unchangeable reality. Indeed, Allah responds to those who call on Him. In the case of Prophet Zakariyyah (peace be upon him), he was blessed with a son, Prophet Yahya despite his old age and his wife’s barren status.
This du’a is a source of solace for those dealing with similar struggles of longing for children. It serves as a reminder for all of us that our Creator is capable of all things and that sometimes the greatest test is in patience and holding firm belief in our hearts that Allah accepts du’a in ways most beneficial to us.
So, dear believers, whenever feelings of loneliness or desolation shadow you, make this du’a your companion. Trust that Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing and that His plans for you are of the best ones. May your heart find peace knowing that indeed Allah is the best of inheritors.
Dua for marriage | Ayoub’s Plea in Quran
In Chapter 21, Verse 83 (Anbiya: 83), allude to the invocation of the prophet Ayyub (Job):
“And (remember) Ayyub (Job), when He cried to his Lord: ‘Truly distress has seized me, but Thou art the Most Merciful of those that are merciful.‘”
This verse provides a timeless lesson on enduring suffering with patience and unwavering faith in the infinite mercy of Allah (s.w.t). The story of Prophet Ayyub (peace be upon him) holds a cherished place in Islamic tradition. Renowned for his endurance of severe trials and tribulations, Ayyub (peace be upon him) was afflicted with loss of family, wealth, and health. Yet amidst these severe hardships, his faith in Allah (s.w.t) never faltered, signifying the magnitude of his patience, resilience, and submission to the will of Allah (s.w.t). This particular verse communicates the moment when Prophet Ayyub, bearing his physical distress, turned to Allah (s.w.t) in humble supplication, recognizing his divine benevolence and profound mercy.
This heartfelt plea is devoid of any complaints. Instead, it simply acknowledges the discomfort Prophet Ayyub (peace be upon him) was experiencing while affirming that Allah (s.w.t) is the One possessing the ultimate mercy.
Allah (SWT)’s response to the plea of His devoted servant is found in Quran, Chapter 21, Verse 84 (Anbiya: 84). The second verse states: “So We answered his call, and We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his family to him, and the like thereof along with them, as a mercy from Ourselves and a Reminder for all who worship Us.”
