5 Essential Duas for interviews

by zOrca

Dua for interview | As we embark on important chapters in our lives, including attending interviews, it is only natural that we turn toward Allah s.w.t with humble hearts to seek His guidance and support. An interview bears the potential to shape our destinies, both in the dunya and the Hereafter, by linking us to our rizq (sustenance).

Here are some duas that you can recite to garner the strength and tranquility that emanate from placing your trust in Allah:

Dua for interview | Invocation for Ease and Success

Before entering the interview room, you may recite this dua:

 “اللَّهُمَّ لَا سَهْلَ إِلَّا مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلاً وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزَنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلاً”

In English Transliteration: “Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja‘altahu sahla, wa anta taj‘alu al-hazna idha shi’ta sahla”

In English Translation: “O Allah, there is no ease other than what You make easy. If You please, You ease sorrow.”

Dua for Reliance on Allah:

This powerful dua reminds you that only Allah holds the key to success and barriers:

“حسبي الله لا إله إلا هو ، عليه توكلت وهو رب العرش العظيم”

In English Transliteration: “Hasbiy Allahu la ilaha illa hu, ‘alayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa rabbu al-‘arsh al-‘azim”

In English Translation: “Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but He. I have placed my trust in Him, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.”

Seeking Allah’s Help and Guidance:

This short yet potent dua summarizes the essence of relying on Allah’s guidance:

“يا حي يا قيوم برحمتك استغيث”

In English Transliteration: “Ya Hayyu, Ya Qayyum, bi-rahmatika astagheeth”

In English Translation:”O Ever-Living One, O Eternal One, by Your mercy I seek assistance.”

Dua for Ease:

“اللهم لا سهل إلا ما جعلته سهلا”

In English Transliteration: “Allahuma la sahla illa ma ja’altahu sahla”

In English Translation: “O Allah, nothing is easy except what You have made easy.”

Supplication of Prophet Musa (a.s.)

When stepping into a challenging situation such as a job interview, anxiety and uncertainty can grip even the best of us. At moments like these, we are reminded of the strength and comfort that comes from turning to Allah s.w.t. for guidance. His divine words, rendered to us through our beloved Prophets, are a beacon of hope and strength.

A beautiful example to embrace in such scenarios is the supplication of Prophet Musa (a.s.)—a dua imbued with humility, sincerity, and the yearning for clarity, guidance, and ease from our Merciful Creator.

Prophet Musa (a.s.) made this dua at a moment when he was tasked by Allah s.w.t. to confront Pharaoh—one of history’s most formidable antagonists. He was to communicate the divine message, an errand of enormity given Pharaoh’s oppressive reign and the sheer magnitude of his arrogance. It was, one can say, akin to the most daunting interview one could imagine, where the stakes were not merely about a job, but about the salvation of a people.

Here is the dua that Prophet Musa (a.s.) made, as documented in the Qu’ran in Surah Taha, verses 25-28:

“رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي”

In English Transliteration: “Rabbi ishrah li sadri, wa yassir li amri, wah’lul uqdatan min lisani, yafqahu qawli”

In English Translation:”My Lord, expand for me my chest, and ease for me my task, and untie the knot from my tongue, that they may understand my speech.”

This prayer serves as a timeless reminder that no matter how intimidating or daunting the task in front of us – whether it’s an interview or any life-altering decision – we can always seek refuge and find solace in Allah’s mercy and guidance.

As you prepare for your upcoming interview, take a quiet moment to recite this dua. Let its profound wisdom fill your heart with strength, clarity, and tranquility. Remember that just as Allah s.w.t. opened the heart of Prophet Musa (a.s.) and eased his task, He too can ease your path and illuminate your journey, insha’Allah.

Reciting these duas with a sincere heart will, Insha’Allah, provide you with Allah’s guidance, ease, and support during your interview process. Always remember to follow the teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), who advised us to have complete trust in Allah while also making the best efforts in preparing ourselves.

May Allah s.w.t. grant you confidence, eloquence, and success in your upcoming interview, making it a source of good for your dunya and akhirah. Aameen.
