Dua for Family: Seeking Blessings and Protection for Our Loved Ones
Today, we come together to discuss the importance of Dua for our beloved families. In Islam, the family is not only a fundamental social unit but also a haven of emotional and spiritual support. Our families are, indeed, the foundations upon which our faith and values find strength and growth. Their well-being, as a result, is our everyday concern, and as Muslims, we recognize that the best way to seek blessings and protection for our loved ones is by invoking the mercy of our Creator.
Dua, the art of supplicating to Allah with full sincerity and devotion, allows us to express our deepest concerns and desires for our families. It is with our hearts full of reverence that we humbly stand before Allah s.w.t., seeking His guidance and protection in all aspects of our family life. Through various Duas, we pray for a stronger bond with our spouses, the success and righteousness of our children, and the wellbeing of our parents.
In this blog, we will be exploring several Duas found in the Quran and the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that focus on the family. We will delve into theses duas, and then added duas, that are not specifically mentioned in Quran or Sunnah.
By incorporating these heartwarming Duas into our everyday lives, we can reaffirm our commitment to our families, seeking Allah’s blessings and guidance to strengthen and protect the relationships that are so dear to us. No matter the trials and tribulations we may face in this world, let us remember that our faith and hope lie in the boundless love and wisdom of Allah s.w.t.
Ayatul Kursi and Al-Mu’awwidhatayn | For protection
Ayat ul-Kursi is often referred to as the ‘Greatest Ayah’ in Allah’s book, tucked away in Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:255. This remarkable Ayah encapsulates the concept of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah s.w.t) and His infinite power and knowledge. Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is reported to have said that whoever recites Ayat ul-Kursi after each obligatory prayer, nothing will stand between him and Paradise except death. It is narrated that reciting this Ayah provides divine protection for one’s home and oneself, warding off any evil.
Al-Mu’awwidhatayn, or the two verses of refuge, are the last two Surahs of the Holy Quran: Al-Falaq and An-Nas. These two Surahs rank high in importance due to their relevance in seeking Allah’s protection from all forms of evil. The Prophet (ﷺ) encouraged reciting these Surahs three times after Fajr (dawn prayer) and Maghrib (sunset prayer) and once after each of the other obligatory prayers. In essence, the Al-Mu’awwidhatayn invocations serve as potent shields from all harms, be they visible or invisible.
Dua by Prophet Ibrahim Surah Ash-Shuara, 26:83
“رَبِّ هَبْ لِي حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ”
Transliteration: “Rabbi hab li hukman wa alhiqnee bi-s-saliheen”
The translation of this Dua is: “My Lord, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous.”
Dua by Prophet Sulaiman Surah An-Naml, 27:19
“رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِىٓ أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِىٓ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَىَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَٰلِدَىَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَـٰلِحًۭا تَرْضَىٰ وَأَصْلِحْ لِى فِى ذُرِّيَّتِىٓ إِنِّى تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِنِّى مِنَ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ”
Transliteration: “Rabbi-awzi’ni an ashkura ni’mataka allati an’amta alayya wa ala walidayya wa an a’mala salihan tardha wa aslih li fi dhurriyyati inni tubtu ilayka wa inni min al-muslimin”
The translation of this Dua is: “My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous servants.”
Dua for happiness from one’s spouse and children Surah Al-Furqaan, 25:74 :
رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا”
Transliteration: “Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa dhurriyatina qurrata a’yunin waj’alna lil-muttaqina imama”
The translation of this Dua is: “Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.”
Other Duas may incorporate from Quran and Sunnah, but are not specifically mentioned in Quran and/or Sunnah.
Dua For Family
يارب إنَّ عائلتي هي من أجمل هداياك، ومن أغلى مارزقتني، فاحفظهم لي وأسعدهم. اللَّهمَّ ياربي وربِّ كلِّ شيء ومليكه، إني أدعوك باسمك الواحد الأحد الفرد الصمد، وأدعوك باسمك الأعظم الذي إذا دعيت به أجبت، وإذا سُئلت به أعطيت، أن تمنَّ عليَّ بصلاح أحوال أهلي وذريتي.
Ya Rabbi, inna a’ilati hiya min ajmal hadayak, wa min aghla ma razaqtani, fahfazhum li wa sa’ada-hum. Allahumma ya rabbi wa rabbi kulli shay wa maliki-h, inni ad’uuka bi-ismika-l-wahid-l-ahad-l-fard-l-samad, wa-ad’uuka bi-ismika-l-a’zam-l-ladhi idha d’uayta bihi ajabta, wa idha su’ilta bihi a’tayta, an tumna ‘alayya bisalah ahwali ahli wa dhurriyati.
My Lord, indeed my family is one of the most beautiful gifts You have given, and the most precious sustenance You have granted me, so please preserve them for me and grant them happiness. Oh Allah, my Lord and the Lord of all things and its Owner, I invoke You by Your Name, the One, the Unique, the Independent, the Eternal. I call upon You by Your Greatest Name, which, if invoked, You respond and if asked, You bestow. Grant me the righteousness of my family’s affairs and the affairs of my descendants.
اللهمَّ حبب إليهم الإيمان وزينه في قلوبهم، وكرِّه إليهم الكفر والفسوق والعصيان، واجعلهم من الراشدين، فضلاً منك ونعمة وأنت خير الرازقين.
Allahumma-hbib-ilayhim al-iman wa zayyin-hu fi-qulobihim, wa karrih ilayhim al-kufr wa-l-fusuq wa-l-‘usyan, wa-ij’alhum min-alrashidin, fad-lan minak wa ni’matan wa-anta khayr-alraziqin.
Oh Allah, make them fond of faith and adorn it in their hearts, and make them dislike disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience, and make them among the rightly guided, by virtue of Your grace and generosity, for You are the Best of providers.
Dua For Khashiyat Allah SWT
اللَّهُمَّ اقْسِمْ لَنَا مِنْ خَشْيَتَكِ مَا يُحُولُ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ مَعَاصِيكَ، وَمِنْ طَاعِتِكَ مَا تُبَلِّغُنَا بَهِ جَنَّتَكَ، اللَّهُمَّ مَتِّعْنَا بَأَسْمَاعِنَا وَأَبَصَارِنَا وَقُوَّتِنَا مَا أحْيَيْتَنَا، وَلَا تَجْعَلِ الدُّنْيَا أكْبَرَ هَمِّنَا وَلَا مَبْلَغَ عِلْمِنَا، وَلَا تُسَلِّطْ عَلَيْنَا منْ لَا يَرْحَمُنَا، إنَّكَ سَمِيعٌ مُجِيبٌ.
Allahumma-qism-lana min khashyatika ma yuhulu baynana wa bayna ma’aasiyka, wa min-ta’atika ma tuballighuna bi-hi jannatak. Allahumma-matti’na bi-asma’ina wa-aba-sarina wa-quwwatina ma ah-yaytana, wa la taj’alid-dunya akbara hamm-ina wa-la mablagha-‘ilm-ina, wa la tusallit ‘alayna man la yarhamu-na, innaka sami’un mujeeb.
Oh Allah, grant us a portion of Your reverential awe that becomes a barrier between us and disobedience to You; of Your obedience that will take us to Your Paradise. Oh Allah, grant us enjoyment of our hearing, vision, and strength for as long as You keep us alive; and do not make this world our greatest concern or the extent of our knowledge, and do not grant dominance over us to those who do not show mercy to us. Verily, You are All-Hearing, Responsive.
Dua For Protection of Family
اللَّهمَّ عافهم فِي أبدانهم وأسماعهم وأبصارهم وأنفسهم وجوارحهم، واجعلهم من المعافين من البلاء برحمتك، والمعصومين من الذنوب والزَّلل والخطأ بتقواك، والموفقين للخيروالرشد بطاعتك.
Allahumma-aafihim fi abdan-ihim wa asma’ihim wa-apa-sar-ihim wa-anfusihim wa jawarihi-him, wa-ij’alhum min-al-mu’afin min-al-bala’i birahmatika, wa-l-ma’soomin min-az-zunubi wa-azzalal wa-l-khata’i bitaqwa-aka, wa-l-muwaffaqin lil-khayri wa-lrashd bi-ta’atik.
Oh Allah, protect them in their bodies, their hearing, their sight, their souls, and their limbs; and make them from those who are protected from calamities by Your mercy, preserved from sins, transgressions and mistakes by Your righteousness, and granted success in goodness and guidance by Your obedience.
Dua For Tawakul
اللهمَّ اجعلنا ممَّن توكل عليك فكفيته، واستهداك فهديته، واستغفرك فغفرت له، واستنصرك فنصرته، ودعاك فأجبته.
Allahumma-ij’alna mim-man tawakkala ‘alaika fa-kafayta-hu, wa istahda-aka fahdayta-hu, wa istaghfarka faghafarta la-hu, wa istansaraka fa nasarta-hu, wa da’aaka fa-ajabta-hu.
Oh Allah, make us among those who rely upon You and are sufficient through that reliance, those who seek Your guidance and are guided, those who seek Your forgiveness and are forgiven, those who seek Your support and are victorious, and those who call upon You and are answered.
Dua for Istiwdaa (Entrusting our family unto Allah SWT)
اللَّهمَّ إني أستودعك ذريتي وأهلي يا من لا تضيع عنده الودائع، فاحفظهم وعافهم من كلِّ آفةٍ وعاهةٍ، ومن سوء الأسقام والأمراض، ومن شرِّ طوارق الليل والنهار، ومن شر عين كلِّ حاسدٍ، وغلِّ كلِّ حاقدٍ، ومن أصدقاء السوء.
Allahumma-inni astawdi’uka dhurriyati wa ahli ya man la tad’i-u ‘indahu-al-wada’i, fahfazhum wa-afi-hum min kulli afa-tin wa-a-ha-tin, wa min suu-isisqum wal-amrad, wa min shri-tawariq l-layl wa-l-nahar, wa min shar-i-‘ayn kulli hasid, wa-gulli kulli-haqeed, wa min asdiqa’il-suw.
Oh Allah, I entrust unto You my descendants and my family, O He before whom no entrusted matters are ever lost, so protect them, grant them relief from every affliction and disability, from the evil of sudden nocturnal and diurnal calamities, from the evil of the envious eye, and from every hostile person, and from bad companions.
Dua For Rizq For Family and Dependants
اللهمَّ ارزق ذريتي الصحَّة والعافية والذكاء والنباهة وسرعة وقوَّة الحفظ والفهم، وارزقهم أن يُسخِّروا كل ذلك لخدمة دينك والدَّعوة إليك.
Allahumma-rzuq dhurriyati as-sihhah wa-l-‘afiyah wa-l-dhaka wa-lnabaha wa-sura’ata wa-quwwata al-hifz wa-lfahm, wa-rzuqhum an yuskhiru kulla dhalik li khidmati dinika wa-ld-da’wah ilayk.
Oh Allah, grant my descendants health, strength, intelligence, alertness, and speed and strength in memorizing and understanding, and grant them the ability to use all that in service of Your religion, and toward calling others to You.
Dua For Family
ربنا هب لنا من أزواجنا وذرياتنا قرَّة أعين واجعلنا للمتقين إماماً. اللهمَّ ألهمنا في أمرنا الصواب، ويسر لنا في كلِّ مسألةٍ جواب، ونجنا من كلِّ ألوان العذاب، وبيّض وجوهنا يوم يشتد الحساب، وزين مجلسنا بخير الأصحاب، واجعل دعائنا دعاء مستجاب.
Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa zhurriyatina qurrata-a’yun wa-ij’alna lil-muttaqin imama. Allahumma allihimna fi amrina al-sawab, wa-yassir lana fi kulli mas’alah jawab, wa najjina min kulli alwan al-‘adh-ab, wa bayyid wujuh-ana yawma yashtad al-hisab, wa zayyin majlisan-bi khayr al-as-hab, wa-ij’al du’a’ana du’a-an-mustajab.
Our Lord, grant us enjoyment from our spouses and our descendants and make us leaders for the mindful. Oh Allah inspire us with right decisions and ease our complex matters, save us from all forms of punishment, lighten our faces on the day of severe judgment, adorn our gatherings with the best companions, and grant our supplications as answered.
Dua For Engaging in Remberance of Allah SWT
اللهمَّ أشغلنا بذكرك عن كلِّ ذكر، وبطاعتك عن كلِّ طاعة، ربِّ أنت الميسر، وأنت المسهل، سهل أمورنا، وحقق مطلبنا، وسخّر لنا ما هو خير في كلِّ أمر. اللهمَّ ارزقهم حسن الخلق، اللهمَّ ألن جانبهم وألن طباعهم، ربِّ آت كلاً منهم مايتمناه ومايشتهيه مما تحبه وترضاه.
Allahumma-ashghal-na-bidhikrak ‘an-kulli dhikr, wa bit-ta’atik ‘an-kulli ta’a. Rabbi ant-al-muy-sa, wa ant-al-musahhil, sahlat amurana, wa haq-qiq-matlubana, wa-sakhir lana ma-huwa-khayr fi-kulli amr. Allahumma-ar-ruq-hum husn-al-khulq, Allahumma-lin janabihim wa-lin-thiba’i-him, rabbi-ati-kulan min-hum may-yatamannahu wa ma-yashtahihu mim-ma-tuhibbu wa-tarda.
Oh Allah, engage us with Your remembrance over every other remembrance, with Your obedience over every other obedience; Oh my Lord, it is You who grants ease and relief, who simplifies our matters, fulfills our hopes, and You grant us the utmost good in every matter. Oh Allah, grant them excellent conduct, Oh Allah, soften their sides and temperaments; My Lord, give each of them their heart’s desires, of things pleasing to You and satisfying to them.
Dua For Family For Hifz
اللهمَّ احفظهم من بين أيديهم، ومن خلفهم، وعن أيمانهم، وعن شمائلهم، ومن فوقهم، ومن تحتهم. اللهمَّ اجعلهم من السعداء الأتقياء الأنقياء الأغنياء الأسخياء الحلماء الرحماء العلماء الأصحاء.
Allahumma-ihfazhom min-bayna ayd-ihim, wa min khalf-ihim, wa ‘an-aym-an-ihim, wa ‘an-shumay-il-ihim, wa min fawwqihim, wa min tahti-ihim. Allahumma-ij’alhum min as-s’ada-a-lattqi-a-l-anqiy-a-l-a’niy-a-l-asiy-a-l-hilm-a-l-raham-a-l-‘alam-a-l-ashih.
Oh Allah, protect them from the front and rear, from the right and left, from above and below. Oh Allah, make them among the fortunate, those possessing reverential awe, the pure, the rich, the generous, those who are forbearing, merciful, knowledgeable, and healthy.
Dua For Being Grateful and Thankful
ربِّ أوزعني أن أشكر نعمتك التي أنعمت عليَّ وعلى والديَّ، وأن أعمل صالحاً ترضاه، وأصلح لي في ذريتي يا أرحم الراحمين، وأدخلني برحمتك في عبادك الصَّالحين.
Rabbi-awzi’ni an asholkur-ni’mataka-l-lati an’amta alyya wa-‘ala walida-i, wa an ‘a-mal salihan tardahu, wa aslihli-fi-tharialati-ya ar-ham-al-r-rahemina, wa_adkhil-ni bi-rahmatika-fi-‘ibadika-salihin.
My Lord, guide me to be grateful for Your blessings which You have granted me and my parents, to do righteous deeds that will please You, and correct me in my offspring, Oh Most Merciful of the merciful ones, and admit me in Your mercy among Your righteous servants.
