The Blessings of Home: Dua for Entering the House

Practicing our faith is not confined to mosques. Indeed, our very homes can also serve as sanctuaries, spaces of tranquility where we can nurture our relationship with Allah (s.w.t). One simple but profound way to invite divine blessings into our homes is through the dua (prayer) for entering the house.

This is not just a ritual, but a conversation with Allah (s.w.t). As we open the door of our homes, we are, in fact, opening the door to His blessings, protection, and mercy.

Dua When Entering the House | Audio

The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) taught us to recite the following dua when entering our homes:

بِسْمِ اللهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى اللهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا

Transliteration:
Bismillahi walajna, wabismillahi kharajna, wa ‘ala Allahi rabbina tawakkalna

Translation:
In the Name of Allah we enter, in the Name of Allah we leave, and upon our Lord we depend [then say As-Salaamu ‘Alaykum to those present].

This humble prayer grounds us in divine assurance, and sets the tone for our home life – one of reliance upon Allah (s.w.t), peace, love, and thankfulness.

The Significance of Dua for Entering the House

By uttering this dua, we dedicate each coming and going to Allah (s.w.t). It is a profound attestation of our trust in Allah (s.w.t) that He will shower His blessings upon us and safeguard our homes. We acknowledge that He is our ultimate source of protection and bounty.

The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) informed us of an added blessing: when entering the house with this supplication and greeting the household, Shaytan is prevented from entering. Thus, this dua acts as a shield, protecting our homes from negative influences and inviting positivity and tranquility.

In Islam, every action and every moment holds potential for worship. Reciting the dua for entering the home is one such remarkable opportunity. As you cross your threshold today, pause for a moment and allow these words to roll off your tongue. Call upon Allah’s generous name and imagine the cascades of His mercy enveloping your home. With each repetition, feel the divine love and security further cemented into the foundations of your abode.

When you open the door to your home, you’re not just stepping onto a familiar floor, but into a sanctuary filled with Allah’s (s.w.t) Barakah. And isn’t that truly what transforms a house into a home?

May Allah (s.w.t) fill your homes with His infinite mercy and tranquillity. Ameen.
