Dua For Exam

اللهم إني أسألك علما نافعا، ورزقا طيبا، وعملا متقبلا

Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman nafi’an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa ‘amalan mutaqabbala.

O Allah, I ask of You beneficial knowledge, a goodly provision and deeds that will be accepted.

As followers of Islam, we are perpetually learning, and our journey to acquire the much-touted ‘ilman nafi’a (beneficial knowledge) knows no bounds. When we plead “Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman nafi’an,” we express our earnest desire to gain the knowledge that brings us closer to Allah s.w.t., knowledge that enlightens and purifies our heart, and enables us to lead a life in accordance with Allah’s commands.

In uttering “wa rizqan tayyiban”, we implore Allah s.w.t for halal (permissible) and wholesome provision – be it food, wealth, or any form of sustenance. This is a profound understanding of the Quranic verse from Surah Baqarah, verse 172, that states “O you who have believed, eat from the good things which We have provided for you…”

Lastly, when we supplicate “wa ‘amalan mutaqabbala”, we pray that our deeds – our daily actions, our words, our service towards others – are not just conducted for the sake of doing, but that they are deeds pleasing to our Almighty Creator and hence accepted by Him.
